DigiBuds

Student peer mentors who can help with all things techy.

The DigiBuds

Graeme is a first year student studying Business Management.

Hey, thanks for checking out this page. As it mentions above, I’m in my first year of Business Management and as someone who’s confident in their computer literacy skills I look forward to helping anyone who has any issues with their computers ranging from problems setting up Microsoft office software such as Word or Excel, to setting up and organising online accounts.

So, if your unlucky enough to come across any issues as a student I hope I’ll be able to help you out to the best of my ability while I’m at the Library help desk on the second floor of the Library.

Feuren is a first year studying Business Management. Feuren is very proficient in the Microsoft package and has experience in training/assisting others.

Hi all.

As it says above, I know my way around all Microsoft packages. I have just completed my Database in Access for Data Analytics, so this is still very fresh in my mind. If you are looking for some direction in Access, please do not hesitate to ask.

Some time ago, I was a Data Support Analyst for Carnival UK. This entailed me to use Excel on a daily basis and therefore became proficient in the application. Ff you are looking for help on formulas or manipulating your tables I would be more then happy to help.

I love teaching and sharing my knowledge with those who are willing to learn and listen. And if I am unable to help for some reason, I'll show you either how to find out for yourself or I will point you to one of my DigiBud peers.

Through the DigiBuds scheme, Feuren is now working on a project with one of her lecturers supporting students with their digital skills.

Hi, everyone who has found themselves on this page, either looking for help or just browsing the portal, you've come to a good place! As said above, I'm a second-year Business Management student with a good amount of knowledge on Microsoft products such as word, excel, access and powerpoint. If you have anything with issues ranging from simple ones such as your picture not moving correctly or something complicated in access, I might know the answer and will do my best to help you out with any problems you may have whilst I'm in the library as a DigiBud.

Grahams feedback

I have recently completed 2 Linkedin Learning courses which i highly recommend. below you will find the course information plus my feedback on them.

Feurens feedback

  • What a successful day. We tried something new and it worked out great. The Roaming Digibug/  I got to roam around the Spark, SM Basement as well as the library asking students if they knew what the Digibud Scheme was all about, how to get one-on-one help from a Digibud as well as help students who didn't know their way around the MS Office Applications. All in all, it was a great day and to top it off I was able to help a number of students who had some digital issues.

  • Yesterday, I was able to pass on my knowledge of PowerPoint to a student who was finding it difficult to present their slides to a professional manner. I showed her where to find different template styles, changing fonts and cropping down pictures.

At the end of the one-to-one, the student was confident enough to continue on her own and found the session beneficial.

  • Today I had the pleasure of working with the Foundation year students in Business Management, educating them in the use of LinkedIn and its professional benefits as I had to apply this during my first year as a Business Management Student. During the lesson, I was able to show the students the correct way of presenting and creating a CV that is relevant to the position they are applying. The students found my knowledge and experience very useful. In one example, I hinted that they could create a generic CV where they could keep adding new skills and experience to. From this they are able to add comments to their skills in order to retain information for future use. By creating a generic CV, they are then able to create side CV's to which you are able to copy and paste from your generic CV to make it relevant to the new position. This way, you are still able to retain information from all positions that you have held.
  • My time on the Library Help desk is nearing it's end.

I have enjoyed every bit of it. The staff are wonderful and are easy to get on with. They even have the patience to explain every issue to me as it arises.

During my time on the help-desk I have helped a few fellow students with digital issues. One student didn't know how to use the software Panopto. I was able to assist and she went away confident that she was able to continue with her assignment at home. Another student needed help copying documents from the printer. I shared my knowledge on how to use the printer so that he may able to do it for himself next time.

Formatting in Word

Formatting and styling your assignments are so important. It doesn’t matter whether you’re writing an initial plan for the smallest piece of work or whether you’re writing your dissertation, it can take you up those extra grade boundaries if you have the best structure and format for your pieces of work.
