TV Interview

Your own primary research does not need to be referenced - cite your interviewee in the text as a personal communication, with a referral, if appropriate, to the full interview transcript in an appendix.

The guidance for referencing an interview that was part of a television programme is below.
 

In-text reference example

Blair (1997) made the claim that…
 

Reference list format 

INTERVIEWEE, Initial., Year. Interview. In: Programme title. Channel. Date. Time
 

Reference list example 

BLAIR, T., 1997. Interview. In: Six o'clock news. BBC1. 15 August. 18:00

Include the details of both interviewees in the in-text citations and the full reference list.

Only the first interviewee surname is reversed in the full reference list entry.

 

In-text reference examples

Vidic and Greene (2024) have referred to the concern... 

It is clear that there is a concern around the "extreme information overload" (Vidic and Greene 2024)

INTERVIEWEE, Initial. and Initial. INTERVIEWEE, Year. Interview. In: Programme title. Channel. Date. Time

 

Reference list example

The format for adding two interviewees to a full reference is shown below.  
 

VIDIC, P. and L. GREENE, 2024. [Add full reference details for the source type after the interviewee following the format above]

Include the details of all three interviewees in both the in-text citations and the full reference list.

Only the first interviewee surname is reversed in the full reference list entry.

If your source has four or more interviewees just include the first interviewee in both the in-text citation and full reference list entry.  You will need to add et al. after the first interviewee to indicate there were multiple additional interviewees.
