COVID 19 - Solent Library services online

Support during the COVID 19 outbreak

Library services from Monday 8th March 2021

For opening hours from Saturday 29th May onwards please view Library Opening Hours

(As of Friday 2 July print services from the university campus are unavailable - please note that Canon Print Centre is unaffected.  More information available here.)

Update - Please note staff and students can use the Web Print service for simple print jobs or the Canon Storefront for more intensive print loads.

From Monday 19th July, the use of face coverings is strongly encouraged throughout the Library for all students and staff.

Browsing and borrowing from Wednesday 28th July:

From Wednesday 28th July, you no longer need to book a slot to browse and borrow. You can borrow books from the library any time we are open without making a reservation.

Please continue to follow sanitising guidance when browsing the shelves.

Laptops will still need to be requested via Click and Collect.

You can continue to return items borrowed from the Library during opening hours.

Booking a study space or computer:
Solent students and staff must still pre-book a study space or computer for individual use within the Library (booking is essential).

Please note - The library is considering removing the need for all students to book computer/study spaces in the near future, and we would like to get your views on this. Please let us know what you think here.

Covid-19 testing:

Please see the Covid-19 testing information and FAQs for details of the requirements for regular Covid testing when visiting the campus.  Please ensure you have had a negative Covid test within the 72 hours prior to visiting the library.

Please note: the library is currently only open to students and staff of Solent University.  We are not able to welcome external visitors or students from other universities or colleges at present, or offer access via the SCONUL Access scheme which is currently suspended.

Solent Library - online and on site

The Library continues to offer a huge range of online resources and services, meaning that you can make the most of the support we offer for your learning without ever leaving home.

Our staff are continuing to support students off campus through live chat and LibGuides where you can access support information and resources for your course area.
For details of the Library's opening hours, please see: Library opening hours

If you want to study in the library you will need to book a desk space or a computer. Find out more information here.

From Monday 17th May the Browse and Borrow service will be available for Solent students and staff to browse the library shelves and borrow items. If you wish to use these items within the Library please also book a study space or computer.  Laptops will continue to be made available via Click and Collect.
You do not need to make a reservation if you are only coming to return books or other items you have on loan.
From Monday 19th July, the use of face coverings is strongly encouraged throughout the Library for all students and staff.
In order to prevent the spread of virus infection you must clean and wipe down any keyboards, mice, desk surfaces and chair each time you use them.
It is important that you check your Solent emails regularly for communications from academic staff about assignment deadlines and online teaching. Please also see the Solent COVID 19 page for student FAQs.
