Late night opening

Accessing the library

You must have a valid campus card to enter or re-enter the building after 9pm on weekdays and after 5pm at the weekend. If you do not have your card, you will not be able to use the library in the evening. 

Only Solent staff and students may visit the library after 9pm (5pm at weekends).  Visitors will not be permitted to enter the building.

During term-time, library staff are available until 10pm each evening (Monday to Friday) and until 5pm at weekends.

After library staff leave, the library remains open with the assistance of security staff and student ambassadors.

During the academic year there are periods of 24 hour opening. Security staff are on duty overnight during this time but they will not be able to provide support with the use of library facilities and resources during this time.

What will be available

  • Support with using the facilities and resources via our team of library student ambassadors (usually available until 11.45pm during the week and until 8pm at the weekend during term time)
  • Self service issue and return - You will need a valid Campus Card and your borrower account must be free of any blocks/overdue items. Please make sure that your card can be read by the self-service machines as faulty cards may prevent you from borrowing*
  • Access to the main collections
  • Use of PCs and photocopiers*
  • Use of all the study areas
  • Individual and group study rooms*

           Some services are dependent upon the IT network being available and this cannot be fully guaranteed as no IT support will be available                               

What won't be available

  • Fully staffed services: i.e. no Information Point, learning technology or print centre staff will be available.
  • Assistance with use of library facilities and resources 
  • Specialist collections (e.g. Consumer Culture Collection, theses etc.)
  • Equipment loans from the learning technology help desk
  • Collection of inter-library loans
