Sconul Access Update

Please check the SCONUL Access website for current updates.

Sconul Access

What is SCONUL access?

Sconul Access is a reciprocal scheme which allows many university library users to either borrow or use books and journals at other libraries belonging to the scheme

Who can apply for SCONUL access membership?

  • Current Solent University students

  • Staff members currently employed by Solent University

Can I borrow books from another library?

You can apply to borrow books from another library if you are:

  • A member of University staff

  • A research student

  • A part-time, distance learning or placement student

  • A taught postgraduate student

Undergraduate students can apply for reference access to other libraries (you will be able to use books and journals in the library, but will be unable to borrow them)

How do I apply?

Visit the SCONUL Access website. If your application is successful you will receive an approval email (usually within 2 or 3 working days).  When applying, please use your Solent e-mail address rather than your personal e-mail address

How do I access other libraries once I have joined the scheme?

Always check the website of the library you wish to visit first as different libraries provide differing levels of access and may register new users during specific hours only.  Some libraries may also ask for a passport sized photograph.  You must have your approval e-mail and Solent University campus card with you

Can I get access to online resources?

SCONUL Access members cannot access another library's electronic resources or use their IT facilities
