Solent Library Green Team

The Solent Library Green Team hosted a green initiative; a Clothes Swap event, which was held in the library foyer/OB area.  The event took place on Saturday 18^th February 2023 (1pm-4pm). It was very successful and helped to bring together the community, stop waste and save money. 

The event attracted nearly 100 visitors, which included Solent students, some of which were introduced to the clothes swap on the day; as they came into make use of working in the library. 

The event was publicised in the library and via the organiser Libby Russell's Facebook page. Facebook.com/SouthamptonClothesSwaps/

Guidance to attend a Clothes Swap event is detailed below: 

• Those attending are asked to pay a £2 attendance fee to the organiser Libby Russell on the day. 
• Attendees bring clothes no longer wanted, which includes female, male and children's clothes/shoes. 
• Attendees swap unwanted clothes for donated clothes – filing a bag they have come with.
• If attendees have no clothes to bring they are still encouraged to come along and take part. 

After the success of this event, the library plans to work with Libby to offer further Clothes Swap events in the library. 

The Library Green Team completed the second Southampton Clothes Swap Event in the Library (OB) area on Saturday, 21^st October 12.30pm-3pm.

Thank you to all the staff who supported this event in so many different ways and to those who attended. As a result of the joint effort on promotion by Southampton Clothes Swap, Library Staff, Communities Team, SU and fashion lecturers, (and the statistics taken by weekend staff), there were 70 people in attendance, 10 were from the Solent staff / student community, 60 were external visitors and 2 children.
